As you know we recently went to Scott Mission in Toronto for a Youth missions trip. Scott Mission is an outreach ministry that is seeking to show love and mercy to those in need. It is a great opportunity for all ages to show the love and care of Jesus to a world that is in desperate need of it. We had an amazing experience and we appreciate all of the work that Scott mission is doing.
I want to begin by thanking everyone who contributed to Scott Mission either financially or through food/item donations. It has been such a blessing to see the way that we all pulled together as a church to make this trip a success. Because of your generous giving, we were able to deliver to Scott Mission many much-needed supplies. The Survival Kits were done up really well, and we appreciated all the help from the Sunday School classes and others who helped put the finishing touches on them. Thank you so much for all your generous giving.
Four Jr. High girls and two leaders went into Toronto from Thursday evening until Saturday afternoon. On Friday we helped out at Scott Mission's food bank and in the kitchen area. Some of us were folding receipts in the office area, others were sorting through fruits and vegetables and canned goods in the food bank area, and still more of us were in the kitchen helping to prep food and meals.
On top of helping out at Scott Mission all day Friday, we wanted to give the students a taste of some of the culture in Toronto. We visited the Kensington market, as well as a Korean Barbecue restaurant where you cook your own food. We also went to see the movie, Miracles From Heaven, which (apart from a few minor theological bumps) was a real tearjerker, and overall a great film.
Finally, on Saturday we went to the beach before we left for home. Everyone enjoyed the trip, and they want to do it again in the future.
We are thankful to Forward Baptist Church for hosting us and making our stay there so enjoyable. The staff gave us a lot of great information about Toronto and were very hospitable. From what I understand, less than 5% of the 2 million Torontonians are considered Evangelical Christian. What a mission field we have right in our own backyard!
Overall the trip to Scott Mission was a great success, we left there encouraged and excited to do more work like this in the future. I think we also grew closer to Christ through this process as well as built stronger relationships with each other. I want to give a special thanks to Christine Pyle for coming and helping to lead. As a student ministry, we are excited to do more things like this again in the future.
May God bless you all,
Kyle Royal, Pastoral Intern working with Student Ministries
