We are going to sing a new song this week. My mother shared it with me a little while back and it resonated with me on such a personal level. So often in my life, I’ve felt overwhelmed and incapable of dealing with my sin and the hard and hurtful parts of life. Like many others, I’ve gotten caught in the futile efforts of trying push the sin away and ignore it. I do this because of my guilt and shame towards my sinful nature. The thought of not being able to make the right decisions at all times doesn’t sit well with my prideful heart and I feel helpless.
But that’s okay, because we are kind of helpless. At least, we’re helpless on our own. With our trust and faith placed in the open arms of our Father, we are not only able to face our sin, we are able to overcome it. Psalm 62:8 tells us to ‘Trust in him at all times, pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.’
We don’t have to wear the weight of our sin as if it’s a uniform. We can lay it on the altar and our life in Christ can define us.
