On Sunday August 7, 2016 the call went out to the whole congregation that if you were able, for the next two Wednesdays (August 10 and 17) you would consider joining us in fasting from breakfast and lunch for the purpose of engaging in deeper prayer and Scripture reading. Using those times you would normally have spent eating, you would instead read Scripture and ask the Lord to purge your heart and the hearts of others from all sin. Then from there, move on to pray for the city and the world, clinging to the promises from Scripture that the Lord pays special attention to the prayers of those who are fighting to walk with pure hearts in all areas of life.
Psalm 34:17-18 says, "When the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit."
I pray that you would be encouraged, that though it can be difficult to spend the day hungry, you would find your hunger sated by deep satisfaction in God. And as we grow in holiness and desperate dependence on God, our prayers would have a special weight behind them when we ask God to draw people to Himself, and break our hearts for those who don't yet know Him, and mightily work through Calvary Burlington to point the broken-hearted, the crushed in spirit, to Jesus in the hope that they would come to trust in Him for salvation.
Thank you to all who have chosen to take partner with us in the season.
