Back to School Students in library

Well, it is back to school time for many of our students and families. Some may feel the excitement that a new school year brings – It can mean a new teacher, a new backpack full of supplies, new shoes or catching up with friends. Others may feel a little apprehensive for change. Perhaps this is a new experience altogether as your little one might be starting Junior Kindergarten or beginning class at a new school, or maybe even leaving for college or university.

I always loved school as a child, and maybe that’s why I went on to become a teacher. So I was surprised when one of my children experienced some fear of separation in the early elementary years. She enjoyed the school day once it started and liked meeting new friends, but that initial line up to go in the school was difficult. She needed just a little extra encouragement or affirmation that she could do this. We quickly developed some strategies that would help the process.

It's a great reminder for all of us how we can all use a little encouragement from time to time. We may even need to be an encourager to others. The Bible is full of assurances that should help us to feel confident and inspired as we face challenges in our daily lives. Keep in mind that God always wants the very best for you.

Proverbs 3:6 –  “In all your ways acknowledge him, and He will make straight your paths.”

Philippians 4:13 – “I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.”

Psalm 50:15 – “…and call upon me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you shall glorify me.”

What are your favourite verses when it comes to seeking encouragement?
