Food for Life is a Halton based charity that sources and distributes fresh and nutritious food to those in need through community partnerships. Food for Life supports approximately 40 outreach sites in the community and works with approximately 40 agency partners. Food for Life provides food for more than 200,000 meals per month – the equivalent to 2.5 million meals annually. Food for Life has been given the honour of being one of the top ten charities in Canada under the Charity Intelligence guidelines.
Food for Life helps those in need access food within their neighbourhood, helping them to overcome one of the largest barrier to accessing food - transportation. A great example of this is the Food for Life program that runs in the Bill Shackelton Complex, supported by Calvary Baptist Church. Making fresh food readily available is very important as these products tend to be the most expensive items to purchase. This food frees up financial resources to purchase other life’s necessities.
Volunteers and gracious citizens are the lifeblood of our organization. We currently work with over 500 volunteers to deploy programs across the Region. Last year, our volunteers served a total of 40, 960 hours in supporting those in need within our community. Our volunteers show up weekly to support a Food for Life program running out of a church, cooperative housing complex, or senior’s building. There is truly strength in numbers – and with our large and dedicated group of volunteers we can put food on the tables of many of those in need within our community.
